Your child will hang onto it for his/her lifetime and remember who gifted it. ;)It's OOP now and quite pricey BUT let me assure you that your child (or YOU).
I got it as a gift, back in 69'-70' from a family friend back when the book 1st came out, and I'm now almost 50 years old and still enjoying this book. It was a joy to read, back when I was 9 years old, and many of the stories and images stayed with me through the years.
I've had this book in my bookcase all this time. yes even late 40's children like me.
Every so often, when I want a blast from the past, I dig it out. It's a wonderful book for children of ANY age.
will so enjoy it and it will become a treasured friend. :)
Like most others who have commented here, I fell in love with the book as a child, poring over it with my dad over and over and over. "If an adult can recite this stuff from memory with a huge warm smile in the heart, and gives this book 5 stars like EVERYONE ONE ELSE HAS, how can anyone think there might not be just a "bit" of really good gold inside the cover.Buy this for a child today. and so I began.
The ship was sinking. I responded back with ""SHOTT SHOT AT NOTT BUT SHOTT'S SHOT DID NOT SHOOT NOTT. It has been a good and familiar friend for so long, and I have carried that book with me all these years as a treasure.I had reason to pull it out a few weeks ago to show my husband, and to read one of my favorites - "It was a dark and stormy night we were standing on the deck.
It was a dark and stormy night."And just today, a colleague questioned my use of "that that" in a sentence. The captain said to me. Tell me a story my son.
NOTT NOT WANTING TO BE SHOT. And/or get another for yourself to bring back those memories.
I bought two copies--one for my sister and one for me and my yet unborn children. My sister and I spoke fondly about the book over the years but assumed we'd never see it again.
I was 11 years younger than my sister, and we both cherished it and read it over and over. This book belonged to my sister, who got it from our parents in the early 1970's.
Only, I could not remember the name of it. Sadly, my sister lost the book years ago.
I must have only been about 5 or 6 when I read it, but today at age 30 I can recall many of the pictures and words. After searching online for a little while, I found the book and could hardly contain my excitement.
I think everyone should have this book.
Just as other reviewers here, I remember this book as an influential part of my youth. As we matured, "what we had missed" always seemed to change. My cousin and I would pour over the pages. either laughing wonderfully at what we had already seen or marveling at what we had missed. To this day, we can always refer back to the book and laugh. Thank you Remy, for giving me (and sooo many others) an amazing piece of creativity.Sleep well old snake, we're eternally entertained.Joseph
I was given this book when I was a child and I still cherishit today. The pictures and wonderful little rhymes andverse are as amazing today as they were over 30 yrs. ago.You cannot go wrong in giving a child a Remy Charlip book.Enjoy.
